Scanning Images in Laundry 214


Scanning Photos, pictures, etc.

  1. Ensure that you are in accordance with all applicable copyright law
  2. Log into the Scanning PC with your SOCIAL or UNITY username/password
  3. If saving to a zip drive, insert your zip diskette into the drive
  4. If saving to your UNITY space, access your UNITY drive
  5. Place your photo, picture, etc., in the upper right-hand corner of the scanner, and face down
  6. Click on the SCAN icon in the upper left corner to start the scan
  7. Now use your mouse to select the area for a final scan
  8. Click on the DISKETTE icon to save your scan
  9. Enter a filename (browse to your zip drive or UNITY space as necessary)
  10. Save your file as a "JPG' file

Scanning Negatives

  1. Ensure that you are in accordance with all applicable copyright law
  2. Use the Scanning MAC to scan negatives
  3. If saving to a zip drive, insert your zip diskette into the drive
  4. If saving to your UNITY space, access your UNITY drive on the MAC
  5. Run the Polaroid Scan software
  6. Place your negative in the negative holder
  7. Click on the SCAN icon to start the scan
  8. Now use your mouse to select the area for a final scan
  9. Click on the DISKETTE icon to save your scan
  10. Enter a filename (browse to your zip drive or UNITY space as necessary)
  11. Save your file as a "JPG' file

Scanning Slides

  1. Ensure that you are in accordance with all applicable copyright law
  2. Use the Scanning MAC to scan negatives
  3. If saving to a zip drive, insert your zip diskette into the drive
  4. If saving to your UNITY space, access your UNITY drive on the MAC
  5. Run the Polaroid Scan software
  6. Place your slide directly in the scanner
  7. Click on the SCAN icon to start the scan
  8. Now use your mouse to select the area for a final scan
  9. Click on the DISKETTE icon to save your scan
  10. Enter a filename (browse to your zip drive or UNITY space as necessary)
  11. Save your file as a "JPG' file
Accessing your Unity space on the MAC:
  • Log into the network using your unity username (click on the small padlock icon in the upper right-hand corner).
  • Click on the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner and select CHOOSER and then APPLESHARE.
  • Click on the IP share button and enter "afp.unity.ncsu.edu" and OK.
  • Your AFS space appears as a drive icon on the left. Your files are located in the WWW subdirectory.
  • Once you are done you can remove the AFS space by clicking on FILE and REMOVE.
  • Also be sure to logoff by clicking on the padlock icon again and choosing LOGOFF
