Scanning Photos, pictures, etc.
- Ensure that you are in accordance with all applicable copyright
law
- Log into the Scanning PC with your SOCIAL or UNITY username/password
- If saving to a zip drive, insert your zip diskette into the
drive
- If saving to your UNITY space, access
your UNITY drive
- Place your photo, picture, etc., in the upper right-hand
corner of the scanner, and face down
- Click on the SCAN icon in the upper left corner to start
the scan
- Now use your mouse to select the area for a final scan
- Click on the DISKETTE icon to save your scan
- Enter a filename (browse to your zip drive or UNITY space
as necessary)
- Save your file as a "JPG' file
Scanning Negatives
- Ensure that you are in accordance with all applicable copyright
law
- Use the Scanning MAC to scan negatives
- If saving to a zip drive, insert your zip diskette into the
drive
- If saving to your UNITY space, access
your UNITY drive on the MAC
- Run the Polaroid Scan software
- Place your negative in the negative holder
- Click on the SCAN icon to start the scan
- Now use your mouse to select the area for a final scan
- Click on the DISKETTE icon to save your scan
- Enter a filename (browse to your zip drive or UNITY space
as necessary)
- Save your file as a "JPG' file
Scanning Slides
- Ensure that you are in accordance with all applicable copyright
law
- Use the Scanning MAC to scan negatives
- If saving to a zip drive, insert your zip diskette into the
drive
- If saving to your UNITY space, access
your UNITY drive on the MAC
- Run the Polaroid Scan software
- Place your slide directly in the scanner
- Click on the SCAN icon to start the scan
- Now use your mouse to select the area for a final scan
- Click on the DISKETTE icon to save your scan
- Enter a filename (browse to your zip drive or UNITY space
as necessary)
- Save your file as a "JPG' file

Accessing your Unity space
on the MAC:
- Log into the network using your unity username (click on the
small padlock icon in the upper right-hand corner).
- Click on the Apple icon in the upper left-hand corner and
select CHOOSER and then APPLESHARE.
- Click on the IP share button and enter "afp.unity.ncsu.edu"
and OK.
- Your AFS space appears as a drive icon on the left. Your files
are located in the WWW subdirectory.
- Once you are done you can remove the AFS space by clicking
on FILE and REMOVE.
- Also be sure to logoff by clicking on the padlock icon again
and choosing LOGOFF
