for the Midterm Exam
- You will need a blue
book. Blue books are available wherever textbooks are sold for a minimal price.
Please only use the small (8 1/2" x 7") bluebooks. Seriously.
- The exam will consist
of 3-4 multi-part questions worth a total of 100 points. The questions will ask you
to draw upon your knowledge of lecture material, assigned readings, and
In order to fully answer these questions, it is expected that you will have
kept abreast of current events during the semester. You will be expected to
be able to apply your knowledge of course material to understanding
current events and possible supplementary materials.
- There may be some limited
choice in which questions you need to answer.
- Answers will be graded
for both accuracy and thoroughness. Answers earning full point value will clearly
and correctly answer/explain the question in appropriate detail. The best
answers will fully incorporate information from readings as well as lectures.
- You are responsible
for the assigned readings in the text insofar as they are on topics we covered
in class. You are responsible for all assigned reserve readings (viewings),
even if they were not covered in class.

How does news media coverage of America’s current budgetary difficulties and the responses of President Obama and Congressional Republicans reflect the way journalists shape the news?
