Information for the Midterm Exam
- You will need a
blue book. Blue books are available wherever textbooks are sold for a
minimal price. Please only use the small (8 1/2" x 7") bluebooks.
- The exam will
consist of 3-4 essay questions of 25-50 points each (total of 100).
The questions will ask you to draw upon your knowledge of lecture
material, assigned readings, and current events. There will be
a limited amount of choice.
- Answers will be
graded for both accuracy and thoroughness. The best
answers will fully incorporate information from readings as well as
lectures and current events. (It is expected that in addition to
course material, you will have thorough knowledge of campaign-related
current events this semester.)
- You are
responsible for the content of the assigned readings-- especially the
reserve readings--as well as lecture material.
- You will have 75
minutes to complete the exam.

Sample Essay
Question (from the 2020 course):
In what ways is Joe Biden’s winning of the Democratic nomination most
consistent with Political Science knowledge/theories on how presidential
nominations work? In what ways is his nomination most challenging
to these political science explanations?
It’s November 20
again and we have a general election result. Based on course
material on presidential campaigns and related current events tell the
story of who won and why.
