Abstract

Distance Ed. courses come in many shapes and sizes, with varying degrees of support, interaction, face-to-face contact and productions costs. This presentation showcases a model for beginning language instruction that features open access, significant face-to-face language proficiency development activities, moderate L2 input, low production costs, and modest maintenance requirements. Participants will learn what it takes to create this type of video-based course using freely available tools, and with limited time and technology resources. We will discuss the many lessons we have learned over the last 14 years of delivering the course at a distance. We will also present data comparing the achievement, attitude and completion rates of traditional and distance-based students.
