Wimba Voice - Weeks 8 & 9

3) Pause to consider feedback that instructors provide on learners' output. How would you treat errors when learners are engaged in communicative language tasks? Here are some possibilities:

  1. Direct correction (pointing out the error)
  2. Indirect correction ( rephrasing the learner's utterance to look like a confirmation check and, thus, to model correct grammar)
  3. Delayed feedback (noting learners; common errors and then pointing them out at the end of class or on a special "review" day)
  4. No special feedback

As you ponder these possibilities, keep in mind the following: what kind of errors would you give feedback on (if at all)? Do all errors need some kind of treatment?
