3) Pause to consider feedback that instructors provide on learners'
output. How would you treat errors when learners are engaged in communicative
language tasks? Here are some possibilities:
- Direct correction (pointing out the error)
- Indirect correction ( rephrasing the learner's utterance to look like
a confirmation check and, thus, to model correct grammar)
- Delayed feedback (noting learners; common errors and then pointing them
out at the end of class or on a special "review" day)
- No special feedback
As you ponder these possibilities, keep in mind the following: what kind of
errors would you give feedback on (if at all)? Do all errors need some kind
of treatment?
