* NÓTENSE:
- COPYRIGHT:
If they are your photos, artwork, maps, or words, you own copyright;
the same with everyone else's photos, artwork, maps and words.
If you want to include a map, a flag of the country, etc., use
one from the CIA
World Factbook, and cite your source. As discussed in class, if you want pretty photos
of your selected country spend the $$$ to fly and live there, take your
pictures, fly home and publish your pictures, or become friends with
someone who did. Or ...
- COPYRIGHT PERMISSION:
Follow the steps below if you want to use other people's images:
- Email the webmaster
(most pages have an email link to the webmaster for the page)/image
owner
- Describe your
project and the class for which you are doing the project
- Then say
something like: "I really like such-and-such a photo. Could I receive
permission to use it on my project page, including a link to the
original, or would you prefer that I only use a link to the image?"
- Wait for
the response, and wait, and wait
- G-RATED:
As stated from the beginning, this is a G-RATED course. The right of
freedom of expression depends on a "free-to-listen-or-not" audience,
and I have to be there, so speak, act, and design your
page accordingly.
-
As you complete each component of the final presentation project, please read carefully each expectation, and be sure to ask me if you do not understand a particular item. Specifically:
- Personal phonological problems and solutions should be presented in a visual table, problems on the left and the corresponding, specific things you are doing to remedy the problems on the right side of the table
- Maps and photos; include them if you have permission from the copyright holder, otherwise simply provide a link.
- If you created (not recreated) a particular resource, then you are the copyright holder and you would have permission from yourself. SOME ".com" sites allow incidental use of images, not for commercial purposes; OTHERS do not. Even if a particular site does not have a copyright policy, the appropriate thing to do is to contact the web site owner/creator/webmaster and seek permission to use it. Just because you are working on an educational project does not mean that you can freely use copyrighted material, even if you do cite the source.
- Let me share a story: A former student learned the hard way. She used images from a site without receiving permission; OIT was contacted by the company; the student's UNITY space was disabled; the student found out via email after it was all over. I don't know what ultimately happened as this ocurred right at the end of the semester. Please read and follow the copyright policies for each site from which you are using material.
- If you are having difficulty getting in touch with someone, or if you do not receive permission, then simply create a link to the site or resource. Do the ethical thing.
