Question: What are the server settings when using Netscape to check email?/Why can't I email my classes using the class rolls?
Answer: If you receive errors when trying to email your students using the class rolls, or if you check your social account email from home, or if you check your social mail at the office using Netscape (or something other than Pegasus mail), you need to do the following, assuming that you are using Netscape 4x or higher:
  • If you have not set up Netscape prior to this, Click on START and PROGRAMS and NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR and UTILITIES and USER PROFILE MANAGER. The settings information below will be necessary at one point or another as you setup your profile.
  • If you do not need to setup an addition user profile, while using Netscape 4.X, click on EDIT and PREFERENCES and MAIL/NEWSGROUPS. If you see a "+" sign in the small box next to MAIL/NEWSGROUPS, click on it so that you you will be able to make the following changes as needed. (If using Netscape 6/7, be sure Netscape Messenger is running, then click on EDIT and MAIL/NEWSGROUP ACCOUNT SETTINGS in order to make the following entries):
  • Social (IMAP)
    • Incoming mail server (IMAP server): (Note: you must chech the setting to make sure this is an IMAP server and not a POP3 server)
    • Incoming mail server username: YourSocialUserName
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP Server):
    • Outgoing mail server username: YourSocialUserName
    • Email address or return address:
    • Be sure that you EDIT your incoming mail server to make sure that you are using the correct mail server username
    • Newsgroup server:
  • Unity (IMAP)
    • Incoming mail server (IMAP server):
    • Outgoing mail server (SMTP Server): ( is no longer usable; see HERE)
    • Outgoing mail server username: YourUnityUserName
    • Email address or return address:
    • Newsgroup server:
