My research and expertise focuses on American public opinion and American elections, broadly. I also have more specific interests in gender and politics, media and politics, political parties, and North Carolina politics. My research has appeared in wide array of peer-reviewer Political Science journals including, Ther American Political Science Review, Political Research Quarterly, Social Science Quarterly, American Politics Review, and, Gender and Politics. I am currently completing a book manuscript, with Laurel Elder of Hartwick College, entitled The Politics of Parenthood.

In discussing American and North Carolina government, I have appeared on BBC-4, CBS Early Show, WRAL, WNCN, WTVD, WUNC-TV, , and CNBC-Asia. I have been on the radio with WUNC (NPR) and stations in Jamaica and Colombia. My appearances in print media include The New York Times, The Times (UK), Reuters, Politico, National Journal, AFP, AP, and The Raleigh News & Observer as well as newspapers in Russia, Slovakia, and Spain.
