The PS 201 Class Listserv

The class online discussion list, which is also how you will be notified of critical information (ex., a class cancellation), has a name like ps201ss108 (for SS1 2008; the address changes each term). The corresponding email address would be ps201ss108@lists.ncsu.edu. The instructor will add you to the list automatically if you are registered by the day before classes start (the instructor will use the email address you supplied to the Registrar). Otherwise, you must join the list if you have not already done so as this will be the official form of communicating with you, including the sending of notices of class cancellations, if any. You can also join from multiple email addresses if you wish (ex., an NCSU and a Hotmail account). If you do not receive initial class instructions the day before class begins, you probably were not subscribed or were not subscribed at the address you expected, and you will have to subscribe manually yourself.

The class listserv is an electronic mailing list for the benefit of class members. Whatever e-mail you send to the list is sent to all members of the class who have joined the list. Note: In 2001 NCSU switched from listserv to majordomo list-serving software, but most people still refer to discussion lists as "listservs," which is the convention used here.

Click here for information on how to subscribe. After subscribing, whatever you send, send to the list address (listname@lists.ncsu.edu), not to mj2@lists.ncsu.edu. The latter is only for commands such as subscribe and unsubscribe. Information on how to unsubscribe is found here. If you wish to unsubscribe, you must do so manually yourself. Alternatively, you may wait until the list is dissolved, usually during the following semester. The Computer Center provides help on subscribing and unsubscribing: call 515-HELP.

If all else fails, please contact the instructor to be manually subscribed as it is essential you be on this mailing list!
