For Norušis I, Chapter 21, use the file vote.sav. There are no instructions for Figure 21-1, but as it is a simple crosstab, you should be able to produce it anyway. Then do the directions on pp. 500, 505, and 507. Then switch to gss.sav to do Figure 21-9 (again, no instructions for this simple crosstab; remember to check "Chi-square" under the Statistics button) . Then do the instructions on p. 515 and 519. Figures 21-16 and Figure 21-17 are a simple crosstab without instructions, but output it, then do the instructions on pp. 523 (note, when doing the conditional transform on cellweight, the cellweight=0 goes in the main Transform dialog and the real=ideal condition goes in the If Cases subdialog).
In class, less emphasis will be given to the remaining topics in Norušis I, Chapter 21, but still get the output: Switch to eye.sav for Figure 21-21, which is an instruction-less crosstabs you should output. Then switch to eyetriangle.sav for Figure 21-22, another crosstab you should output (tip: eye is the layer variable), then do the instructions on p. 529. Produce Figure 21-26 by repeating, using the tip on p. 531. Then load lungcancer.sav and follow the instructions on p. 537. Then load happymarriage.sav and produce the crosstab at Figure 21-31 (tip: you must first weight cases by obscellcount), then do the instructions on pp. 542-543.
Load gsslogmodel.sav (this is on the disk which comes with Norušis II). Use Analyze, Descriptive statistics, Crosstabs to get Figure 1-1. Do the directions on pp. 6. For the table on p. 9, this is supposed to be derived manually from Figure 1-2, which is part of your p. 6 output: however, the figures on p. 9 do not match the book on p. 7 -we will discuss this in class. Do the directions on pp. 11, 16, 20, and 23. Note that for this HILOG output, the SPSS output window may not display the bottom of your output correctly: select it, and drag down the handle in the bottom middle of the selection to display the full output (or just do not worry as it will be exported properly). When printing from a word processor, you may find putting it in Courier 8 formats it best.
Load logit.sav (this is on the Norušis II disk). Use Analyze, Descriptive statistics, Crosstabs to get Figure 2-1. Do instructions on pp. 28, 30 (be sure to use agecat4, not agecat), and 36 (be sure to use agecat, not agecat4).
